Most hair experts agree that there are only four groups of hair textures.
- Fine textured hair
- medium textured hair
- coarse textured hair
- wiry textured hair
Within these few definitions of textured hair you may find that hair can be kinky, wavy, straight and with densities of thin thick or medium.
You can also have multiple varieties of textured hair ranging from straight as an arrow to as curly as possible. Did you know that is as also possible that you may have many variations of textured hair on one scalp also. Asian hair often has a different appearance or shape as some call it and this is mostly very different than Caucasian or African American hair. Many people with an African American descent or heritage have textured hair much like tightly curled or coiled hair and it has a flat ribbon like shape.
Texturing hair properly is an artform.

When I first started styling hair in NYC I realized that I wasn't very good at dealing with different textures of hair. First of all you have to cut the textured hair differently for each texture. I found it very easy to deal with soft blonde hair. It was very simple to cut. Now I am 15 years older and have so much more experience cutting hair in New York City. Cutting hair in New York is what I live for and what I love to do.
